A farm full of life: FB II now officially has a voice
Anyone passing by the courtyard of Faculty II from 4 p.m. on the afternoon of April 8, 2026 quickly realized that there was more going on here than just the next coffee break. In typically changeable April weather, Faculty II celebrated the official founding ceremony of its new student council. It was the moment that committed members of the student council initiative had been working towards for a long time. And the result is not only a new committee, but also concrete improvements for our everyday university life.
Tailwind from the university: the speeches
Dr. Yannik Liedholz kicked off the ceremony as a representative of the Sustainability Commission. The cooperation between the student council and the commission was noticeable and above all visible everywhere on this day, especially in the newly designed outdoor area. The StuPa then took the floor and warmly welcomed the new members of student self-administration to the circle of active members.
A special sign of appreciation was the visit from the Presidential Board: Vice President Prof. Dr. Anja Voss emphasized the importance of student involvement for a vibrant university in her speech. The fact that the neighbors from Faculty I also stopped by with warm welcomes underscored the feeling that the entire university is behind the founding of this new strong voice for Faculty II.
The highlight: a key and a ribbon
The crowning glory of the list of speakers was the Dean, Prof. Dr. Michael Erhart. And he did not come empty-handed: In a highly symbolic gesture, he handed over a key, thereby making the promise of a dedicated student council room. A long-awaited milestone! The students are already eagerly waiting to finally move into a permanent home base at the university to plan projects or simply be present as a contact point.
Immediately afterwards, the Dean got down to business and cut the ceremonial ribbon on the new student council bench, which is now available as a new meeting place in the courtyard.
Roll the movie and take a seat!
After the speeches, it was time for the big screen. The new student council film generated a lot of enthusiasm. And the outtakes in particular made the crowd laugh. Anyone who has seen the film knows that it's about more than just committee work - it's about community, team spirit and a good dose of humor. Anyone who missed the film should definitely catch up: it captures exactly what the student council wants to be - approachable, committed and always ready to listen to all student concerns.
But it wasn't just words and moving images. To celebrate the day, there were two tangible innovations for our everyday university life.
The student council bench: the new open-air meeting point is now an inviting place to chat, network or simply relax between lectures. A place that is sure to quickly become a regular spot for many.
The greening of the inner courtyard: thanks to close cooperation with the Sustainability Commission, the gray concrete is a thing of the past. The new benches and flowerbeds finally make the courtyard a place where you can really enjoy spending time, sort out your thoughts and take a deep breath between classes.
What remains of April 8, 2026?
The foundation ceremony was a complete success and sent a clear message to everyone. It was the starting signal for a new era of co-determination at Faculty II. With its own room in sight, a new bench behind it and a green thumb in the courtyard, the Faculty II student council is showing that we have come to stay and actively and creatively help shape life at the university.
A big thank you goes to all the helpers, speakers and of course to all the students who attended despite the April weather. We are excited and look forward to everything this student council will tackle in the future.
