People Cheerful, helpful and highly committed to students

Obituary for Prof. Horst Plickert, Professor of Law at ASH Berlin from 1971 to 2003

On February 5, 2024, our long-time colleague Horst Plickert passed away at the age of 86.

Horst Plickert was a lawyer and was appointed Professor of Law at the Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences (then known as the Berlin State University of Applied Sciences for Social Work and Social Pedagogy) from 1971 until 2003. He taught in particular the basics of law, youth welfare and youth welfare law and in many project seminars on the subject of the penal system and offender support. Many former students remember his cheerful manner and his great willingness to help students. I will never forget the following incident: a student wanted to cancel his participation in the seminar by telephone and apologize because of a broken foot. Horst Plickert then offered to pick him up by car and take him home again. He did this again and again for many weeks.

Horst Plickert was active in many committees of the university's academic self-administration. In addition to his teaching activities at ASH, he also worked for many years as a lecturer for several law seminars at the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Berlin. As a young lawyer, immediately after completing his studies and legal clerkship, he began teaching law as part of the training for social workers - an activity that he pursued with great commitment for more than 35 years.

Horst Plickert was not only closely identified with ASH Berlin and a teacher with heart and soul, but was also associated with many practical fields of social work in youth welfare and criminal assistance. Even years after his retirement, I have repeatedly seen social work professionals remember him and ask about him.

The obituary was written by Prof. Dr. Heinz Cornel, who was Professor of Juvenile Law, Criminal Law and Criminology at ASH Berlin from 1988 to 2019 and still teaches regularly at the university today.
