Early help and child protection are increasingly becoming the focus of (specialist) public attention. Against this backdrop, the first Master's degree course in Germany was launched at our university in 2015, which focuses on dialogical quality development and interdisciplinary as well as social and organizational science qualifications in addition to specialist in-depth studies on core topics of early help and child protection.
At the end of 2023, a new series of publications was launched by Tectum Verlag, which presents outstanding and innovative theses from the Master's degree program, which above all underline the need for dialogical cooperation between science, practice and citizens. The series is made financially possible by the Quality Development in Science and Practice Network (QE-WiPrax), which is affiliated with the Master's program. It currently consists of 15 public and independent child and youth welfare organizations that have entered into a cooperation with ASH Berlin in order to mutually advance science and practice (third mission).
The first volume in the series is the book "Kita-Sozialarbeit als neues Berufsfeld zur Stärkung des Kinderschutzes" by Christina Wiethüchter. The book is available in print and as an open access publication. The publication shows the importance of the profession of social work in the field of daycare centers, highlights the perspectives of existing daycare center social workers and focuses on the potential of strengthening child protection in the profession.
