Artificial intelligence (AI) offers a wide range of possibilities in studying and teaching that can fundamentally change work processes, establish new teaching and examination formats and reduce routine tasks. This requires a responsible and transparent approach to AI.
For this reason, the Academic Senate adopted AI guidelines and the declaration of independence on 10 February 2026, which are binding for all degree programmes, including continuing education courses. With the introduction of uniform AI guidelines and a declaration of independence and description of use, we are creating a clear, fair and transparent framework for the use of artificial intelligence in studies and teaching as well as uniform procedures for all degree programs. The declaration serves to protect academic integrity and promote the responsible use of AI in accordance with the guidelines on the use of generative AI in studying and teaching at Alice Salomon University Berlin (ASH Berlin), which were drawn up by the LSK in 2024 and adopted by the AS.
The version adopted by the AS was developed in a participatory process in the QME SuL department with particular commitment from the Service Center for Writing and Study Skills and the Digital Media Didactics department and feedback from course directors and the examination administration, and was discussed in detail in the Commission for Teaching and Studies (LSK). It is valid both for academic work and for admissions to final theses at ASH Berlin. The AI guidelines form the basis, the declaration of independence and the associated description of use implement them in practice. The guidelines regulate permissible and impermissible areas of application of AI as well as the documentation and labeling requirements. The description of use lists possible areas of application and requires the AI tools used to be specified.
The AI guidelines, the declaration of independence and the description of use are now available as a single document in both Word and PDF format on the Examination Administration website .
Previous versions or course-specific AI guidelines will lose their validity from SoSe 26, but there is a transitional arrangement: For students who received their admission to the Bachelor's or Master's thesis in WiSe 25/26 (regular submission in SoSe 2026), the previous regulation still applies or the use of the new declaration is voluntary. For students who apply for admission to the thesis in SoSe 2026, the new regulation applies.
The website of the Service Center for Writing and Study Skills - Department of Quality Management and Development in Studies and Teaching (QME SuL) - provides up-to-date information on the use of AI in academic work at the university. There you will find a critical classification of the background to AI including self-learning slides, FAQs, explanations of the guidelines for the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in academic work at ASH Berlin and all workshop offers and dialog formats for students and lecturers in the summer semester 2026. The page is constantly updated. Seminar visits can be requested.
